Tomorrow marks 17 weeks for us! It seems that in just the last two weeks, my “baby bump” has gone from nearly unnoticeable to pretty much un-hide-able! :) I went through my closet last weekend to see what I could still get away with wearing and the results were sad. I took out two entire Rubbermade totes worth of clothes that don’t stand a chance of fitting this body until at least August. Well, ok, maybe they could fit, but you wouldn’t want to see them fit!
Matt and I have decided to have a doula help us during delivery so I am starting to do some initial interviewing of potential doulas. If you haven’t heard of a doula before, don’t worry, it is a relatively new trend. A doula is almost a mix between a midwife and a birthing coach. The doula won’t do any of the medical procedures but will be there solely to provide physical, emotional and mental support to Matt and me. Doulas are trained in massage and different birthing techniques so they can advocate for trying different options before asking for pain meds. What I personally really like about having a doula is that she will be able to give Matt a break if he needs to get something to eat, update anxiously awaiting family members or just needs to leave the room for a while. I think that will allow for a little less stress for all of us. Less stress in my world = a much happier world for EVERYONE! If you've never seen me completely stressed out, consider yourself to be very blessed and lucky :)
I have been told at 17 weeks, the baby can start hearing sounds, so bring on the belly headphones and Michael W. Smith cds. If anyone has suggestions of good baby music, let me know. We’re also going to start reading to our Mustard Seed next week, so I can finally bring back all of my favorite children books. This baby will be a genius by the time he/she makes the grand entrance into our world.
One more side note…my best friend from childhood is due today with their first son. Please say a prayer for a wonderful delivery of Baby Wyse. Jenny and Ryan will make wonderful parents!

Kudos on the decision to use a doula - from what I've heard, a good doula is absolutely priceless. I know several through our midwife and a friend at work!
So...when do we get to see pictures of this undeniable baby bump?!
